Writing reviews, metas, and the like is a lot about timing. If you don’t craft your writing in the immediate aftermath of your source’s release, someone else will beat you to it and, chances are, your audience will be less enthused about reading the same arguments weeks later. (Admittedly, that’s up for debate. I for one am happy to read about the same shit for years on end.) Thus, when I didn’t have the time or the mental energy to write about It: Chapter Two immediately after seeing it in thea...

I tried to come up with a catchy title and obviously failed, though in my defense I think this conversation is important enough for the blunt and the straight forward. A little over two weeks ago Good Omens dropped on Amazon Prime to the utter joy of Gaiman and Pratchett fans alike----myself included. Given the criticism we've seen lately against live-action remakes (Aladdin), "live-action" remakes (The Lion King), long-running franchises (Star Wars), and shows with lackluster finales (Game of T...

I meant to write this post up directly after seeing Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald weeks ago and, to be entirely frank, I forgot all about it. That says a lot about my disappointment in the film and even more about our changing perspective on the Harry Potter phenomenon as a whole. Two years ago, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them released at my local theater and the line to get in—not to get tickets, those had been sold out days before—twisted down the theater’s massive steps,...

{Beware, traveler, spoilers for all seasons of Elementary ahead!}

In the eighth episode of the sixth season of Elementary (titled “Sand Trap”), Sherlock returns home after a few months of doctor-imposed vacation and is met with a heartfelt hug from Joan. It’s beautiful. And worth re-watching on a loop.

This alone makes their relationship noteworthy—the 19th century original stories with their social norms and the other adaptations of this supposed “high functioning sociopath” don’t come clos...

{Beware, traveler, spoilers ahead}

Theoretically, the purpose of any blog post is to convey something. To explain to my (embarrassingly small) audience my opinions, to generate new ones in turn, and----as I always hope----to teach. I don't compose blog posts until I feel like I have something to say... until now. There's been no time to unpack and analyze the Sense8 finale. I don't have any groundbreaking reflections. I finished the movie-length episode exactly seven minutes ago and I just need...

Welcome to the unofficial and completely subjective ranking of Dream Daddy's dating options! I've wanted to do a ranking for a while now and because my own love for this game isn't embarrassing enough I decided to drag my friend Nick into the mix as guest blogger. His rankings will be in fire orange (or as close to that as Wix allows) while I went for the obviously superior plum purple. Fair warning, this ranking is more absurdity than actual advice, heavily influenced by intoxication, exha...

It's 2018 and every time Dumbledore tries to sneak out of the closet J.K. Rowling shoves him right back in.

Look, the last two weeks have been nothing but a backlash against the announcement that Dumbledore will not be "explicitly gay" in the next Fantastic Beasts installment, so I'm not here to rehash all of that. If you'd like a refresher on the drama-----as well as a nicely summarized list of the other issues Rowling is tone-deaf to-----I'd recommend checking out how the Harry Potter univ...

[Beware, traveler: spoilers ahead

Every six months or so my dental hygienist (hey, Camille) and I get to chat fandom stuff, which would be even more enjoyable if I wasn’t trying to rave about anime with someone else’s fingers in my mouth. When she mentioned an adventure game called Life is Strange I agreed to play it on faith, knowing that Camille had yet to lead me astray. However, what she failed to mention was that this game would absolutely ruin me.

Taking a step back.

For those not in...
