"Throwback Thursdays" are for metas, rants, reviews, and the like that have already been written elsewhere, primarily on tumblr. Due to tumblr's specific culture there's often a slight difference in the language and tone of these posts. That is, less "professional scholar" and more "exasperated fangirl." Both are useful in their own right.

The tl;dr

Owen’s backstory in “Fragments” makes absolutely no sense for his characterization and it was generally just shit...

We’ve made it to the finish line, friends, and wow am I happy to get there.

Let’s move through this as smoothly as we’re able.

With everyone realizing that Voldemort and stupid time shenanigans are a legit threat now, an “Extraordinary General Meeting” is called at the Ministry, and I laugh because that doesn’t sound at all serious and ominous, it sounds like something from Kindergarten. “Class! Every day we have our normal meeting, but today there’s an EXTRAORDINARY meeting!” Bring out the mil...

(There will be four sections of this review, one for each Act. Part 1 and 2 are here. Spoilers and ranting below).

Well, my reviewing has somewhat slowed because my reading has also slowed—to a freaking crawl if I’m frank. I never thought I’d see the day where I had to force myself to read Harry Potter… yet here we are.

Let’s get this over with.

For all those who’ve forgotten (and it’s a seriously wonky plot so I wouldn’t blame you), we’re now in the third timeline, the one where Cedric is s...

(There will be four sections of this review, one for each Act. Part 1 is here. Spoilers and ranting below).

Well. I’ve finished Act 2 and…things have not gotten better.

They’ve gotten worse.

I’ll get to the plot in just a second, but for now let me just say that characterization is still a horrid mess. Even the characters that don’t appear get short changed. Neville—our brave, amazing Neville—is briefly mentioned by McGonagall as a good person to help them look for the missing Albus and Scorpius, b...

[A brief explanation of spork can be found here. An explanation of Throwback Thursdays is here. Also, obvious spoilers below]

Given that this is Harry Potter, a phenomenon with more love poured into it than almost any other modern literary series—from myself most of all!—I feel the need to preface this review by saying a few things.

1. No, this isn't a recap. Rather this is a pure, responsive critique. You'll need a least a passing familiarity with Cursed Child's characters and plot to follo...

[Beware, Traveler - Spoilers Ahead]

Who’s your favorite Flash character? Mine is Harrison Wells and yes, I mean every Harrison Wells. From Star Trek’s evil Mirror Universe counterparts to the Fringe division learning to embrace their alternate selves, the doppelgänger has long been a beloved trope in Science Fiction, capable of drawing out both conflict and nuance of character — and Tom Cavanagh’s work is no exception. It means that I was (and remain) thrilled to get another itera...

[Head here for an explanation of Throwback Thursdays]

Oh ho. This was an episode and I’ll freely admit that I was 100% fooled by the twist. But let me start with some of the smaller stuff first.

A nice, light beginning with Buffy and Angel coming out of the fictional film “Le Banquet D’Amelia” that, as Buffy helpfully points out, isn’t reeeeally about food. In case the overt ‘we just saw a super sexual film but we can’t have sex’ message isn’t clear, there are subtle touches too, like the cuddling...

[Head here for an explanation of Throwback Thursdays]

I haven’t reviewed Lucifer at all, which is a tragedy because it’s one of my favorite shows, but in my effort to analyze more of what I'm watching for "fun" I figured I shouldn’t let the finale pass us by.

Lucifer is, first and foremost, a show utterly infused with sex and we’re reminded of that right from the start. We begin the first scene with a close up of Chet’s scorched and smoldering skull, before immediately moving over to Charlotte’s s...

I'm not much for uploading old photographs or videos, but I would like to get all of my blog posts in one place. Thus, "Throwback Thursdays" will be for metas, rants, reviews, and the like that have already been written elsewhere---primarily on tumblr. Due to tumblr's specific culture (well worth discussing at another time) there's often a slight difference in the language and tone of these posts. That is, less "professional teacher" and more "exasperated fangirl." Both are useful in their own r...
